Module 0: Self-Introduction

Self-Introduction - Mike Newton

Hi, my name is Mike Newton, I live in the Detroit, MI metro area (US EST time zone). My undergraduate degree is in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University, and I am a Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCP) through the Association of Supply Chain Management (ASCM). I have 15 years of professional experience, 9 years in Management Consulting (IBM, KPMG) in the both the Public Sector (Defense) and Private Sector (Healthcare) and 6 years of industry experience. Currently, I am an IT Manager at Cooper Standard Automotive based in Northville, MI a tier 1 auto supplier in our IT Purchasing Business Engagement (like an internal consulting team using technology to solve real world business problems).
For fun, I enjoy spending time with my wife (Kelly), daughters (Sydney age 5 years, Piper 2.5 years) and our dog Della. When I have some time, I follow the NFL, NBA and EPL. Recently, I have been learning a little more about gardening because my girls are interested in planting flowers. I have a variety of IT experience, but predominantly in IT Program Management, Requirements Management, Systems Development and Business Process Design. I am pursing a master's in MIS and taking this course to formalize my academic background in IT to align with my professional industry experience, to understand current and future market trends in IT and the practical application/deployment within an organization.

  1. Hi Mike. You have an extensive and impressive resume. I think you are making the right move with the master's in MIS to (as you put it) formalize your IT background. By EPL I assume you are referring the to the English Premier League right? Do you follow any international competitions like the UEFA Champions League?

  2. You have an impressive background! We love the Jazz here in Utah but having lived in Arizona when my dad was getting his degree, we also enjoy the Arizona teams. It would be cool to have an NFL team nearby, but the college teams are a big deal here.

  3. Hello Mike. You sure have a diverse background. How has your experience been in the IT sector in comparison to your previous roles? On a side note, which NBA team are you a fan of? I'm a Lakers fan myself.
